Here at PADNOS, we are working to strengthen our sustainability message. Sustainability is the backbone of our company and it defines our daily operations. We communicate our sustainability message, by strengthening and emphasizing our commitment to our team members, our community, and our planet.
PADNOS bridges communities with industry. Each year PADNOS connects with thousands of community members, offering responsible outlets for household items to be properly recycled. Our recycling centers pay for many items including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, cars, and electronics — and is available to anyone with a valid ID. The scrap and recycling industry helps to allocate resources where they are needed most.
As an industrial recycling and scrap company, the impact of our operations travels far beyond market values. Potentially hazardous substances including CFCs (such as Freon), gasoline, oil, and other fluids are safely removed from items recycled at PADNOS. Our R2-certified team safely dismantles and recovers materials from electronic waste. Our sustainability team has compiled extensive research on the impact of recycling, including the reduction in health hazards and a decreased demand for virgin materials. Sustainability is more than focusing on internal operations; it’s improving the planet we share.
“PADNOS’ commitment to sustainability ensures effective and efficient use of all resources. Innovative recycling solutions, data driven results, and systemic teams allow for continuous improvement allowing for the best use of the resources we have. We are committed to improving current conditions to provide a better future for generations to come. Our PADNOS family invests in team members and the community through collaboration of resources and looks to support those who do the same. At PADNOS, sustainability is woven throughout our values and daily operations.”

PADNOS values a work environment built on collaboration and shared responsibility, including the responsibility to our environment. We know that sustainability plays a major role in our surroundings and that our work at PADNOS impacts the ‘triple bottom line’: the social, environmental, and economic sectors of society. When everyone is informed, our ties to sustainability gain momentum, making way for the continuous improvement for which we strive.
The importance of defining sustainability in context offers a critical scope that most pass over. In the upcoming blogs, we will outline how to avoid misleading claims to sustainability, how we as a company measure sustainability, and helpful tips for community members to close the loop for items we bring into our homes.
DETROIT – It’s hard to imagine how a trade war could turn into a scrap yard fight here.
Yet China is the largest consumer of scrap commodities. And Michigan is a major exporter, generating multimillions of dollars in business when it comes to recycling metals.
So when China slapped retaliatory tariffs on aluminum waste and scrap, recycling operations found themselves on the front lines of the trade war.
Consumers who haul stuff out of basements, backyards and garages hoping to make a few bucks by scrapping already are seeing far less money in return for junk.
It doesn’t get more basic than this: The single most recycled consumer product in the United States is the aluminum can.
